Jehovah's Witnesses 2009 International Conventions - Rome, Italy
Ghana 2009 International Convention - Article -
West Africa - November 27, 2009 -
Key Bible texts explaining the meaning of what many people refer to as the end of the world will be discussed in the Witnesses' upcoming three-day “Keep on the Watch” District Convention. Jesus' words in the text at Matthew 24:21 describe the world's end as a “great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world's beginning until now, nor will it occur again.” The convention is scheduled to begin on Friday at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex. Many people have different views about the end of the world, but Witnesses feel that what the Bible teaches on the matter is enlightening, sobering, and meaningful. Program parts throughout the three-day event will highlight an analytical and reasonable as opposed to fanatical approach to that subject.

First Person:
We grew up as Jehovah's Witnesses from the 1960's. There were four of us, myself, sister and two cousins who grew up together. We went to every convention and assembly since we were young. In all honesty, every assembly was memorable and enjoyable. It was joyful, we have happy memories as children and teens at each assembly. Even when we were not doing well as Christians when we were teenagers, the assemblies were still enjoyable. There was joy and love, beautiful singing, which is unforgettable, sometimes tears of joy. As children, we sat at the assemblies for four days, for morning and afternoon sessions, which started around 9:30 until around 12:00, then started again at 1:30 and ended around 4:30-5:30. It wasn't so difficult or burdensome, we can still remember some of the things we heard when we were young children, modern-day dramas, and other memorable things. As adults, we had visit with us, yesterday, as this is being a written, a young brother from Bethel who just came back from the Kenya International Convention held a couple of weeks ago. It was a beautiful, colorful, joyful event, he has been so happy ever since coming back. The international conventions are joyful. There is love there, God's spirit is there, and it is refreshing. This isn't a fabricated story, it is true. You probably have to be in tune to get the benefit of the assemblies, if your mind is elsewhere, or your heart is elsewhere, then maybe it might not be the same, but even as teens, for a few years, not really following closely the Christian way, we still enjoyed the association, and to a certain extent the program at the Jehovah's Witnesses assemblies. It's easy in life to focus on the negative, even get a few cheers by doing so, but without trying, there is too much positive at these assemblies, and it isn't so hard to find joy in them. Nehemiah 8:10.

JEHOVAH’S Witnesses had powerful reasons to rejoice regarding their 2009 “Keep on the Watch!” District Convention. They were delighted to note many in the community chose to attend sessions of their annual three-day event. The peak attendance of more than 2400 included Witnesses and non-Witnesses alike. They came to the Honiara Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for a convention program that focused on the need to heed what the Witnesses say is the Bible’s urgent message concerning the end of wickedness. Some titles of the program parts show the scope of the subjects covered during the program. “‘Stay Awake’ as Christian Families!” was a convention highlight.... -- If you feel like the world has been crumbling down around you lately, the Jehovah's Witnesses say - you're right. It is. In fact, beginning this weekend, they'll be holding a series of public lectures entitled "How to survive the end of the world". "It's imminent. It's at hand," says local Jehovah's Witnesses spokesman Travis Telfair. Local Witnesses will be holding 14 consecutive 'conventions', as they call them, at their convention center on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard - formerly the West Palm Beach Auditorium.
